204 Ruger

May 2013

Holy crap time goes by in a hurry.

Never got a product review done on the 700 Remington but life goes on.

I have used the 204 in the field quite a bit but it didn't take long before frustration set in. The cartridge is extremely accurate but on coyotes, I was getting poor performance. In one of the forums I was told that it was likely the bullet that I was using, which happened to be a 45 grain SP.

The consensus was that the 39 grain Blitz King or 32 grain V-Max would do a better job.

I switched to a ballistic tip Nosler but haven't taken another coyote with the gun yet. Somewhere along the way I started using my 222 Ruger instead and that solved the problem.

Part of my love hate relationship with this gun, I think, stemmed from the long barrel. The 24 inch factory barrel drove me nuts in the field. It grabbed every tree limb within 50 feet of me as I walked through the woods. It would grab the door frame of the truck when I leaned in to grab something off the seat or put the gun away.

So I solved that problem too.

Bill
