July 2010

Back in late February or early March we decided it was time to find a new house. So by late March we got our house listed with an agent and crossed our fingers.

Our original idea was simply to move to a nicer neighborhood but first looked at a place with acreage that a friend was considering selling. The location was a little farther out than we had hoped for so we kept looking.

We found a home a little closer in and wrote an offer on it. But with todays market there is no such thing as a "bridge" loan so the bank would not even look at it until we had a contract on our home. So now it's a waiting game and then bam, we got a contract on our house and had 40 days to vacate. The house we had written the offer on sold the at the same time so we were back to square one. We called our friend back and he had not listed or sold his home so we bought it. Of course that put him in the same boat with no place to call home but he put together some travel plans, worked his butt off and was out of the house in time for us.

July 25 we were in the new home on acreage and I can honestly say I don't think I've ever worked so hard in all my life. The heat index that weekend was in the 110 range. There was no time to stop or we would never get done. We worked late into the night basically all week and culmunated with the movers finishing at the new home at 1:45AM on the 25th.

Those young men earned their money! Moovers in Kansas City There were a few hicups but they did a great job.

Now my work is cut out for me. My loading benches have been placed in the intended location in the basement and all I have to do is un-pack every single piece of equipment and all the components. Where is Elizabeth Mongomery (Bewitched) when you need her?

I should have it all done sometime in the next couple of weeks, and hopefully in time to do some testing before deer season.

There is 6 light bulbs and 1 outlet in the basement of the new house and of course my "shop area" is at the opposite end from the breaker box. I know I can't work under a 60 watt bulb or even 100 watts so we'll be putting in some shop lights ASAP.

That's been our excitement for the summer so far but we are thrilled with the new home and feel very fortunate to have been able to make it all work.
